Introduction

Elevate your aviation career with the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) Theoretical Training Course at Flying Angle’s Flight Academy. Designed for candidates holding a Private Pilot’s License (PPL), this course imparts the essential theoretical knowledge needed to ace the ATPL and Instrument Rating Knowledge Examinations conducted by the CAASL. Upon successful completion of these examinations, you will obtain the CPL/IR with ATPL (Frozen), qualifying you to operate as a pilot on commercial flights under both Instrument and Visual Flight Rules, and eventually to earn endorsements for other aircraft types. 

Entry Requirements
  • Age: Must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the program.
  • Education: Six passes at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination, with a Credit Pass for English and a Credit
    Pass for either Mathematics or Science, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Medical: A valid Class 1 Medical certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka. 
  • Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in both spoken and written English.
  • Pilot License: Must hold a PPL issued, granted, or validated in accordance with the Air Navigation Regulations of Sri Lanka as per the CAASL.
  • Duration: 06 Months 

Course Structure

The ATPL Theoretical Training Course comprises a minimum of 650 hours of ground training, including theory instructions, progress tests, and discussions. The training is designed to be integrated with flight training, ensuring that you gain maximum benefit from both ground and air time. The comprehensive curriculum covers all critical aspects needed for commercial pilot operations.

Ground School Subjects
  • Air Law: Understanding aviation regulations and legal responsibilities. 
  • Airframes/Systems/Power plant/Electronics/Emergency Equipment: Detailed study of aircraft systems and emergency procedures. 
  • Instrumentation: Mastering the use and interpretation of flight instruments. 
  • Mass & Balance: Learning the principles of aircraft weight and balance management. 
  • Performance: Analyzing aircraft performance parameters. 
  • Flight Planning and Monitoring: Effective planning and monitoring of flights. 
  • Human Performance and Limitations: Understanding physiological and psychological factors affecting pilots. 
  • Meteorology: Studying weather patterns and their impact on flight operations. 
  • General Navigation: Techniques for accurate navigation. 
  • Radio Navigation: Use of radio aids for navigation. 
  • Operational Procedures: Standard operating procedures for various flight scenarios. 
  • Principles of Flight: Theoretical principles underlying flight mechanics. 
  • VFR Communications: Communication procedures under Visual Flight Rules. 
  • IFR Communications: Communication procedures under Instrument Flight Rules.
